This program uses the law as a tool for justice by challenging systemic violations and promoting accountability through the courts. HURIC Uganda engages in strategic litigation to set legal precedents, protect marginalised groups, and influence policy changes that strengthen the protection of human rights in Uganda and beyond.

In 2019, HURIC Uganda integrated a Legal Aid Session into the Kakoma Health Camp to bridge the gap between healthcare and legal empowerment for marginalised communities. The session provided free legal consultations, educated over 300 participants on their health-related rights, and documented systemic injustices such as gender-based violence, land disputes, and labour violations. More than 40 cases were addressed, with referrals made to Justice Centres Uganda and other legal aid providers for follow-up support. Insights from the session highlighted critical policy gaps, including inadequate protection for community health workers and delays in addressing gender-based violence, leading to recommendations for integrating legal aid into future health initiatives and expanding mobile justice services.
